The communications manager is responsible for all Foundation communications and building external relations with the media to consistently articulate the mission of the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation. A priority is creating and executing a multi-platform communications plan to tell compelling stories that build awareness and help drive fundraising activities. Responsibilities include marketing, website, social media, public relations, and special project messaging.
The communications manager will work closely with the executive director, and executive and division leadership of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to implement strategic communications initiatives.
Develop and execute a comprehensive and multi-platform strategic communications plan for the Foundation.
Establish and monitor metrics to measure communications success
Work directly with DNR marketing and communications to ensure the Foundation’s work is regularly communicated through all available DNR channels
Create engaging experiences with DNR programs that the Foundation supports on its website
Create an engaging social media presence through multiple platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
Develop a relationship with traditional media outlets throughout Indiana
Produce press releases and distribute to appropriate media
Lead creation of all marketing materials (brochures, promotional videos, annual report, newsletters and e-newsletters, e-mail blasts, direct mail solicitations, etc.)
Manage communications and outreach for special projects
Create engaging prospect experiences at the Indiana State Fair and other special events
Leverage database (SalesForce) to define and reach select audiences for fundraising campaigns
Manage internal communications with DNR staff
Assist with on-site donor/prospect visits
Assist in developing the Foundation’s 30th anniversary campaign
At least a four-year degree from an accredited school
At least three years’ professional work experience
Knowledgeable with WordPress and social media platforms
Demonstrated success with strategic communications/marketing plans
Passionate about conservation
Support the Indiana Department of Natural Resources mission and work
Must be able to travel throughout Indiana, occasionally overnight
