Bowles Mattress Partners to Support Indiana Tree Project

The Indiana Tree Project is helping Indiana’s forests thrive, thanks to the ongoing support of our dedicated partners and donors. With a donation that will result in the planting of 1,000 trees on Indiana’s public lands, Bowles Mattress Company is the most recent partner to join the effort of growing and promoting healthy Hoosier forests.

Bowles, based in Jeffersonville, began donating to the INRF and the Indiana Tree Project with the launch of its Sleep IN Style mattress series. While the organization’s donation will create meaningful impact on Indiana’s forests, it is just the beginning of their support. For every mattress purchased, Bowles will donate a portion of the proceeds to the INRF.

“Bowles Mattress has a rich history of supporting charities and worthy causes, so the idea of donating dollars from mattress sales towards tree plantings was a natural connection,” said Scott Armstrong, Bowles Mattress president.

Since 2014, Bowles has supplied mattresses to the Indiana State Park Inns, a relationship that served as the launching pad for this new collaboration. After meeting with Karen Hinton, deputy director of Indiana State Parks, who oversees the inns, and discussing the importance of preserving Indiana’s public lands, Bowles quickly settled on giving back to Indiana DNR and the state’s natural resources.

As the official nonprofit for the DNR, the INRF was a perfect match for the company’s ambitions.

“Working with Indiana-owned companies to support Hoosier conservation is always a rewarding experience,” said Jody Kress, INRF executive director. “Bowles Mattress is demonstrating its commitment to enhance the community it serves for its customers across the state.”

Just six months after the launch of the Sleep IN Style line, the company accrued enough funding to make the 1,000-tree commitment. This rapid growth of the partnership is exciting for Bowles as the company looks toward the long-term support of Indiana’s public lands.

“Our goal is to simply give back and make a difference in replenishing forests,” Armstrong added. “This endeavor should continue to grow and support the Indiana Tree Project for many years.”

Clark State Forest, the oldest state forest, sprawls in the distance in southern Indiana.

The trees planted through this partnership will benefit Hoosiers and visitors for generations to come. With the growth of Indiana’s forests comes increased outdoor recreation opportunities, healthier ecosystems, and more wildlife habitat.
